The 5 Books You NEED for Your Healing Journey
I realized the hard way that healing begins from the inside out. Maybe you've realized this too. That it’s not outside circumstances, people, past experiences, current “problems” and future worries that are to blame. It has always been yourself that holds the key to your soul's liberation.
Blame is the opposite of Acceptance. Acceptance is the doorway to personal freedom and power. The common thread with all of these transformative spiritual books is that they ignited the fire within myself. The fire that lights my path to empower me to exist as a more fully self-realized soul. Many say "knowledge is power." From a nuanced perspective, applied knowledge is wisdom. These are the five books that you need for your healing journey with applicable knowledge and spiritual insight.
In this post, I'll share the key highlights of each book, why it's relevant and where you can find them.
You are a Badass: How to stop doubting your greatness and Start living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero
If you know me (or read my bio), you would know that You are a Baddass opened me up to my innate power within. Jen Sincero shows readers that you don't have to play it small. With cosmic humor and cuss words, Jen brings inspirational yet harsh truths to light. You may be in a space where your wanting to open more up to life, if so this book is for you.
Here is one of the many, aha moment quotes in her book, You are a Badass:
“You are perfect. To think anything less is as pointless as a river thinking that it’s got too many curves or that it moves too slowly or that its rapids are too rapid. Says who? You’re on a journey with no defined beginning, middle or end. There are no wrong twists and turns. There is just being. And your job is to be as you as you can be. This is why you’re here. To shy away from who you truly are would leave the world you-less. You are the only you there is and ever will be. I repeat, you are the only you there is and ever will be. Do not deny the world its one and only chance to bask in your brilliance.” ― Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass®: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life
Accepting the freedom the you have to choose with the power you bring to each moment is so liberating. This self-development spiritual mash up really brings out the power in us all. Click here to check it out.
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
This is a powerful self-help and spiritual growth book, drawing from ancient Toltec wisdom to offer a code of conduct for creating love and happiness in one's life. What I love about this book is it's structure around the four key agreements that Ruiz suggests can lead to personal freedom and a fulfilling life. Not to spoil the book, here is a quick overview of the four agreements:
Be Impeccable with Your Word: Speak with integrity and say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others.
Don’t Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality.
I've shared deeper sentiments about not taking anything personally here on my YouTube channel, click to watch .
Always Do Your Best: Your best will change from moment to moment, but it should always be your best. Doing your best under any circumstances will help you avoid self-judgment and regret.
Don’t Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate clearly to avoid misunderstandings.
Through simplified shamanic thought, the author paints a clear picture of timeless wisdom through ancient tales, nuanced spirituality and plain language. I'll share a quote from this wisdom-filled book that shifted my viewpoint from victim consciousness to creator consciousness.
“Maybe we cannot escape from the destiny of the human, but we have a choice: to suffer our destiny or to enjoy our destiny.” ― Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements
We truly are the creators of our destiny. This book can open doors to new thought and self-acceptance when read with an open heart. Click here to learn more about this.
The Untethered Soul: The Journey beyond Yourself by Michael Alan Singer
In a clear and straightforward manner, Singer distills complex spiritual concepts into simple tools useful to someone new to spiritual exploration or someone seeking to deepen their existing practices. I was introduced to this book at a unique turning point in my career, where I was loosing touch with what I've been sent here to do.
The Untethered Soul explores the idea that true peace and freedom come from understanding and transcending the mind's incessant chatter and emotional patterns. What I love is how the author shares practical advice on how to achieve inner peace by detaching from thoughts and emotions rather than being controlled by them. This approach can help you find a deeper sense of calm and liberation on their spiritual path.
A central theme of the Untethered Soul is the importance of living in the present moment. If we've been together a while, you know that I love to advocate for practices that ground us into the present moment. The author emphasizes how much of our suffering comes from dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Learning to be present is a key element for deepening your spiritual journey and this book offers guidance on how to cultivate that presence.
Here is one of my favorite quotes from the Untethered Soul: “Do not let anything that happens in life be important enough that you’re willing to close your heart over it.” ― Michael A. Singer, The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself
Closing your heart is the equivalent of spiritual death. When our heart is closed, life isn't fun, enjoyable or exciting. When our heart is open, life becomes beautiful and we are stronger than what seeks to break us. Click here to find this book and put it on your self.
