But you probably were attracted to this post anyway because you are a being that is aware that everything has a certain vibration & that interactions with anything or anyone can leave you feeling lifted or drained. Really paying attention to how your body feels, the emotions popping up inside and intuitive gut feeling - brings you clarity over time on what is good for you and what is harmful. We each interact and experience the world differently so there are unique nuances fro your personal lens that only you can determine.

In this blog post, I’ll give you some practical tips to maintain good energy hygiene and a bright aura. You’ll learn the basics about aura and energy hygiene.

What is an Aura?

The aura is the subtle field of energy that surrounds living beings, especially humans but animals, trees, mountains, flowers and food as well. Yes, everything in our world vibrates at a specific frequency and generates a unique aura. Which is a reflection of a person’s emotional, mental and spiritual state. Varying in color, size and intensity depending on factors like physical health, emotional wellbeing and alignment. Our aura interacts with the environment being influenced or influencing the surroundings. Think of your aura as your energetic fingerprint, unique to you - it’s your vibe, the powerful invisible field you bring to every interaction, conversation, party and event.

Here are some KEY signs of an imbalanced aura:

  • Feeling drained or exhausted for no apparent reason.
  • Sudden mood swings or negative emotions.
  • Experiencing frequent illness or discomfort.
  • Feeling "off" or disconnected from your true self.
  • Lack of creative intention

The Basics of Energy Hygiene

Energy hygiene is the sacred intentional practice of maintaining a balanced energetic state by regularly clearing and protecting your energy field from stagnant influences. A plethora of techniques can be used to keep your balanced like the following:

  • Meditation
  • Breath-work
  • Grounding in nature + tree hugging (yes literally)
  • Smudging with palo santo, sage or incense
  • Using the power of Crystals to cleanse + restore
  • Mindful movement: Qi gong, yoga, running, walking

Curating your week with a few of these practices will greatly impact your mood, emotional resilience and overall vibration. I’ve found that the level of consistency is directly correlated to a more energetically balanced and calm presence in daily interactions. Just like physical hygiene is necessary for bodily health, energy hygiene helps us protect our emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.

Set Clear Boundaries

There are quantum codes in every aspect of our world especially in the creative space even rap! In the wise words of rapper Big Sean, he shares why boundaries are so crucial and that he is at a season of his life where they are VITAL.

“gotta start settin' boundaries
'Cause everybody want a part of me, now I'm a piece of me
Been dealin' with the part of me that people hardly see
I gotta fall back and just get organized
Soak off in the sun rays and get fortified”

Boundaries are not fences to keep others our and you safe inside. Boundaries are an invitation of love, respect and trust of all parties involved. When you set a boundary it truly is out of love for yourself and the other. If you make a boundary out of fear, hate or shame, you are self-imposing suffering through avoidance and defensiveness.

If you have had a tough time setting boundaries, begin with your physical environment and work inwards. Create a space that is sacred to you—whether that's your home, workspace, or a particular spot where you retreat to recharge. It’s important to set limits with your time and how much you're available to others. Since we live in a digital world, boundaries should exist here too (especially.) I like to regular have ‘phone-free’ hours where time is designated to disconnect. By limiting the amount of time spent on social media and news, you give yourself more space to connect with your self.

The most important boundaries in my humble opinion is emotional boundaries. These are invisible but hold the most potency. Many of us experience our emotional boundaries being crossed since childhood. The way you can set boundaries emotionally is to protect your emotions by being mindful of interactions with people who drain you. Learn to say “no” is actually showing yourself love and love to the other. If you don’t have the capacity to give 100% to something, then you would be doing yourself and others a disservice by not recharging your battery. Always remember, you are worth surrounding yourself with people who uplift, support, and energize you!

Energy Preservation Through Movement

I absolutely love working out outdoors. It is so therapeutic for the soul as well as the body. Nature helps to recalibrate your energy, reduce stress and boost your emotional well-being. Grounding or Earthing is the practice of placing your bare feet on the earth to soak up the negative ions from the earth’s crust, trees, grass and surrounding natural environment. Any movement done outside or inside will benefit the body regardless - it doesn’t even have to be intense - a short walk, stretching or yoga can brighten your aura while boosting energy levels. Regular body movement will preserve and enhance your energy levels by moving and releasing stuck energy to impact mood and vitality.

Rest and Sleep

Don’t sleep on quantum healing power of sleep! As humans, adequate rest is fundamental to energy replenishment. You can improve your sleep hygiene with a few simple steps:

  1. Make sleep a priority by keeping a consistent bedtime
  2. Avoiding screens before bed
  3. Creating a relaxing environment for rest with essential oils, dark curtains or calming music

Beyond sleep, give yourself moments throughout the day to rest. In accordance with the laws of nature, rest is an imperative part of the growth cycle - ask the trees during the winter. Even 5-10 minutes of deep breathing or meditation can be enough to recharge your mental energy.

Three Plane Detox

A detox correlates to boundaries in a very intentional way. When you go though a detox, you are navigating from a place of intentional detachment with something that you realized you’ve been really attached to. The three plane detox includes a digital, emotional and environmental detox. The intention of this detox is to create space for you to receive spiritual guidance, reduce physiological stress and regulate your nervous system.

  • Digital Detox: Schedule time away from screens. Consider a tech-free weekend or a digital-free evening to reset your mind.
  • Emotional Detox: Regularly check in with your emotions and release any built-up tension, resentment, or stress. Journaling, therapy, or talking to a trusted friend can help you clear emotional clutter.
  • Environmental Detox: Your physical space can also impact your energy. Regularly declutter and organize your home and workspace to create an environment that supports peace and creativity.

Expand your Auric Field with Meditation

I always share with my reiki clients that meditation is like an internal shower. Just as you shower your physical body every day. Meditation brings up the stagnation to the surface through emotions, thoughts and body sensations. Even when you think ‘its not working’. It internally cleanses you by grounding your energy and plugs up leaks due to stress or negative thought patterns. A consistent practice of mindful meditation trains your mind to become aware of when it’s drained and how to redirect your focus.

A great add to your meditation practice is breath-work, your Prana or breath (in Sanskrit) - is your vital life force that moves in an expanding and contracting manner. This movement clears your aura field by dispersing stagnant energy surround your body. Deep, slow breathing calms your nervous system to re-energize you.

Earlier, I shared the nuanced information your body holds on what is good for your energetic and what isn't. Checking in with your body throughout the day is a great practice to grow the mind-body connection. A body scan meditation is a useful quantum tool that allows you to pay attention to areas where you might be holding tension and release it. This built up tension blocks the natural flow of energy through your chakras which dim your auric field. Want to learn a bit more about Body Scan Meditation?
